FatturaPA to Excel: Italian e-invoices to a spreadsheet

Turn the Italian e-invoices you receive into one Excel file for your books. Choose .xml or .xml.p7m files, many at once or in a ZIP, check the list and download a workbook with a row per invoice, every line, the VAT summary and the due dates. It all runs in your browser: the invoices are not uploaded to any server.

Three steps

How to convert FatturaPA invoices to Excel

  1. 1Choose the invoicesFiles ending .xml or .xml.p7m, or a ZIP of them. Hundreds at once is fine.
  2. 2Check the listEach invoice with supplier, number, date, total and the result of the sum checks.
  3. 3Download Excel, CSV or PDFA spreadsheet for your bookkeeping, or a readable copy to print.

Who needs FatturaPA in Excel

Invoices between businesses in Italy are e-invoices in the FatturaPA XML format, exchanged through the tax agency's Sistema di Interscambio (SdI). A company abroad with an Italian supplier, or anyone without Italian invoicing software, ends up with .xml and .xml.p7m files that Excel cannot read. This page turns them into one workbook.

What you can download

Choose the files above: .xml, .xml.p7m, or a ZIP of them, as many as you have. Each invoice appears in a list with supplier, number, date, document type, total, amount due and the result of the sum checks. Then download:

  • Excel (.xlsx) with four sheets: Invoices (a row per invoice with supplier and customer VAT numbers and tax codes, taxable amount, VAT, total, withholding tax, stamp duty, amount due, due date, IBAN and description), Lines, VAT summary (per rate and exemption code) and Payments. Dates and amounts are real numbers, so sums, filters and pivot tables work at once.
  • CSV of the invoices or of the lines, comma separated with a dot for decimals.
  • A readable PDF of every invoice with English labels, to print or file.
  • Attachments: when invoices carry attached files, such as the supplier's own PDF copy, one click saves them.

Column headings, document types and payment methods are in English, with their codes (TD01, MP05 and so on) next to them, so an Italian accountant reads the same sheet; VAT exemption codes such as N2.2 stay as codes.

Opening a .p7m file

An invoice with a CAdES digital signature has the extension .xml.p7m: the XML sits inside a signature envelope. The tool removes the envelope and reads the XML inside, from binary files and from base64-encoded ones. The signature is not verified; it is removed only to read the data. XAdES-signed invoices are plain .xml files.

What is read, and the checks

The tool reads ordinary FatturaPA invoices to businesses (FPR12) and to public bodies (FPA12), every document type in the schema (TD01 to TD06 and TD16 to TD29), and files holding several invoices (a "lotto"). Credit notes (TD04) keep the amounts written in the file; the document type column tells them apart. Simplified invoices (FSM10) and SdI receipts are recognised and reported, not converted.

Two checks from the SdI's official list are re-run on every invoice: the taxable amount per VAT rate must equal the sum of the lines plus any pension fund contribution and rounding (code 00422, 1 euro tolerance), and the VAT must equal the taxable amount times the rate (code 00421, 1 cent tolerance). An invoice that fails is marked "Check" and its details show both figures. This is not the full SdI validation.

Nothing is uploaded

The files are read in your browser by scripts loaded from DocFig, and the Excel, CSV and PDF are made there. The page only sends tiny counters with an event name and no invoice data. How to check this yourself. The legally valid invoice remains the XML file; the PDF made here is a readable copy.

Questions

How do I open a .p7m Italian e-invoice?

Choose it on this page: the CAdES signature envelope is removed in your browser and the invoice appears in the list, ready for Excel, CSV or PDF. The signature is not verified.

Can I put many FatturaPA invoices into one Excel file?

Yes. Choose all the files at once, or a ZIP of them: the workbook has a row per invoice on the Invoices sheet and every line on the Lines sheet.

Is the PDF a valid invoice?

No. The legally valid invoice is the XML file sent through the Italian Sistema di Interscambio. The PDF made here is a readable copy to print or file.

Why is an invoice marked Check?

It fails one of the two SdI checks re-run here: taxable amount per VAT rate equal to the sum of the lines (00422), or VAT equal to taxable amount times rate (00421). Its details show both figures.

Are credit notes subtracted?

No. Amounts stay as written in the file, without a minus sign. Credit notes have document type TD04: filter that column in Excel to treat them separately.

Are the invoices uploaded?

No. The files are read in your browser and the Excel, CSV and PDF are made on your device. No invoice is sent to DocFig or anyone else.
